One summer I worked as a camp counselor for Duke TIP (talent identification program) at their Trinity University location in San Antonio. I am not alumni but many of the counselors were. It was a 3-week program where kids (maybe like 11-13 years old) would take classes in a few mini programs for kids with diff interests—science/writing diff stuff like that. I saw there were entire programs about like, catastrophe preparedness lolol. Really reminds me of the gifted kid stuff where they wanted the kids to speculate on how a UFO would function.

I had never worked as a counselor before, and I haven’t since, so idk how normal this was, but multiple kids at this camp disclosed how they had been/were being abused, not related to this program but they were just kind of in that gifted kid space where it seems stuff like this happens. Like the boy scouts. A really smart, nice kid in the writing program wrote and presented a few piece about his trauma. And literally right after that he started to receive scary, anonymous phone calls every night that really disturbed him (I think these calls were from another student who has some behavioral issues, but it was a unique issue to deal with).

Hearing Trinity University name dropped in this ep, I’m finding it impossible to ignore the fact that Duke University has a gifted child Talent Identification Program at Trinity University in San Antonio…

Every night we would do a choreographed dance to Don McLean’s American Pie…
